Bird Whistling at Night

July 23, 2020July 23, 2020 ahorsealone

What bird whistles
In the still of night?
Are you hiding in the thistles?
Are you dreaming of light?

What bird whistles
When life seems to hide?
Your language and its riddles
Are as far away as pride.

Such notes melt over me,
As a blanket of stars,
And just as warmly
Rise in morning hours.

A moon to behold

March 8, 2020 ahorsealone

Oh what a moon
To behold;
Shining,
Shimmering,
Gold.

Starlight piercing
Teardrops bold,
A town is silent
And age is old.

Night lets down
Her vertigo hue.
Our pool is golden
We are

a night, she looked at me

December 21, 2018 ahorsealone

where will my fingers go,
when the melody of the night,
is so cold.

tell me the stories
trembling
in your heart.

let me hear
in your breath
forgotten songs of the night.

your eyes,
that struck me down,
how do those eyes,
see this town?

dont let me hide
in the shadow of a moment.

pin me down,
and hold me,
just hold me.

Two children,
Whispering dreams,
Floating, by and by

Often Awake

August 19, 2013August 19, 2013 ahorsealone

My eyes oft searched through the dark,

As though my dreams were empty,

As though they wanted not a part
Of sleep I slept without thee.

That Night Be

October 8, 2012October 8, 2012 ahorsealone2 Comments

But had I many nights serene
When with me in midnight’s walk,
Only that on which I lean
Was my standing thought.
Had I many nights to see,
Surely one would that night be.
