So suddenly I felt the drops
Chittering on my neck,
It must have been an angel
Anointing me in juvenile jest.

A Harrowing Song
It was an odd hour
Of the night,
My mind astray,
Tired, my sight.
My back to the wall
Speaking to dreams,
Long did time call,
Little did he need.
Darkness before me,
A cursed mistress…
I pleaded for mercy
And she fancied less.
Then the sounds came
Ever familiar
Until almost by name
And yet simpler.
So the snow would sing
Behind these beams.
Sown in ice and wind,
Lady winter softly speaks.
Obsidian Eyes
Your obsidian eyes
Follow me,
My blood runs high,
Dream to dream.
Your faces are many,
Your song the same,
Bless nights sending me
To eyes that never change.
Silent Pilgrimage
We road
Faithfully
By way untold,
A story
Forgotten
As it is known,
A journey
Sacred
As it is old.
Whereto we pressed
My aged bones,
Our tongues dressed
In silence alone?
A Candid Word
I am as the candid word,
Passing kindly
In the alleys of the wind,
Adorned with sunlight,
All that a stranger’s
Tongue could sing.
Think of me not
As a lost verse.
This way I am a truth
Forever unearthed,
Sailing past
The shoulders of man,
An Autumn leaf
In a forest
Dancing…
And what of yourself
Your fingers dig deep
Into my cold… broken hand.
How sweet is the warmth
That you, this way, command.
Go on and move
My blood around,
Go on, read my bones…
They can’t pretend.
Tie my tongue in knots.
Make heavy my letters.
Leave me with my thoughts,
Stumbling and fettered.
Whiskey Talks
Though familiar,
As night walks,
And sweeter than,
Thoughts amid talk,
Beneath the stars
Our eyes would meet,
Miles apart
Our words now reach.
Let secrets keep
And watchers weep.
Let sober steps
Another night sleep.
Forgotten eyes
I wonder if
I saw his eyes…
Had they been
With me a while,
Would the devil
Wear his faces
And rest behind
So many smiles.
Two Suns in a Day
Two suns in a day…
One sitting by me,
The other, in her way,
Perched heavenly.
How the universe
Throws me so
The heavens ablaze
And the earth aglow.
How could I doubt
The rising sun?
Oh what a thought
For eyes so won.
Here I was taken
To sit with you,
Found life mistaken
When I saw two.
Rose with Poppy Blood
She’s dancing in the snow,
Don’t know which way to go.
A rose with poppy blood
And a maddening strut.
With eyes that can’t follow
Anything short of a dollar.
With feet that all but holler
And limbs that sway so somber.
I wonder who’s got her
Wearing that heroine collar.
